That’s Three Times the Fun as We Celebrate 3 Milestones at Lucy!
Saturday, July 18th, we will celebrate Lucy’s 145 birthday, the 50th Anniversary of Lucy being designated as a National Historic landmark and the 250th Birthday of America. The red, white and blue themed celebration will take place from 10am to 8pm at Lucy the Elephant and on Atlantic Ave. behind Lucy’s behind. Lucy’s Gift Shop remains located in its temporary spot at the Corner of Washington & Atlantic Avenues.
“We are so grateful to the City of Margate, its police department and public works department for closing Atlantic Avenue for our elephant-sized party. Atlantic Avenue will be closed to east bound traffic from 7am thru 10pm on Saturday” said Lucy’s Executive Director, Richard Helfant.
Some new features this year include a 22’ double lane Stars & Stripes water slide, a fire dog belly bounce, carnival smash, a money grab machine…and returning favorites, the Lucy Express Trackless Train ride and a 9-hole mini-golf course. Jersey shore favorites such as hot dogs, French fries, Philly Hot pretzels, Mexican street corn from the Byrdcage in Atlantic City, patriotic colored cones and sodas will be available.
At 3pm, we will sing Happy Birthday to Lucy and hand out birthday donuts.
Lucy’s 145th birthday commemorative t shirt features Lucy in a festive patriotic setting and, of course, tours inside the World’s Largest Elephant will be on-going all day long. Be sure to check out Lucy’s annual pedicure…can you guess what color they are this year???

How do you participate in the activities for this event?
Outside activities and food will use a ticket-based system similar to a carnival. Tickets can be purchased outside under the main tent for $1 each or BUY MORE, SAVE MORE when you spend $10 for 11 tickets, or $20 for 25 tickets. .
Can I use tickets for everything at Lucy the Elephant?
Tickets can be used for most outside activities and food on the day of Lucy’s Birthday Party; however, there are some exceptions. Tickets cannot be used toward the purchase of any merchandise in Lucy’s Gift Shop, including Lucy’s Collectible Birthday T-Shirt or admission to the Guided Tour. Admission Tickets for the Guided Tour through Lucy the Elephant can be purchased in the Gift Shop.
Can I park at Lucy the Elephant for this event?
No, there will be no on-site parking for the day of this event. All visitors to Lucy the Elephant on the day of the birthday party, will need to find parking on the street. Margate City provides FREE street parking throughout the City, but please follow all posted restrictions to avoid any parking violations.
What time is the birthday cake?
At 3pm, we will sing Happy Birthday to Lucy and hand out birthday donuts while supplies last.
